Free Streaming and Hydrodynamic Simulations of Heavy Nucleus Collisions at RHIC

چکیده
While providing excellent predictions for low p? particle spectra and transverse radial and elliptic ow, hydrodynamic simulations of heavy nucleus collisions have disagreed with recent data on the HBT radii calculated from the collisions of Au+Au at p s = 130 AGeV at RHIC. A novel initialization developed here to investigate the possibilities of new physics evolves the system through the process of free streaming in the preequilibrium phase ( < eq). An elementary discussion of hydrodynamics, kinetic freeze-out, and HBT analysis is given, as well as the matching conditions of the free streaming initialization to the hydrodynamic evolution. Subsequent results show that for this type of initialization, freeze-out occurs approximately 13% faster with a 13% larger transverse radius. These results are better correlated with RHIC data and suggest implementation of intitial free streaming may provide a reasonable approximation to the early non-equilibrium stage of the collision.

متن کاملHeavy flavor in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and RHIC II
In the initial years of operation, experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) have identified a new form of matter formed in nuclei-nuclei collisions at energy densities more than 100 times that of a cold atomic nucleus. Measurements and comparison with relativistic hydrodynamic models indicate that the matter thermalizes in an unexpectedly short time, has an energy density at le...
متن کاملHydrodynamic analysis of heavy ion collisions at RHIC
Current status of dynamical modeling of relativistic heavy ion collisions and hydrodynamic description of the quark gluon plasma is reported. We find the hadronic rescattering effect plays an important role in interpretation of mass splitting pattern in the differential elliptic flow data observed at RHIC. To demonstrate this, we predict the elliptic flow parameter for φ mesons to directly obse...
متن کاملUniversal Flow in the Early Stages at RHIC
Pre-thermal flow plays an important role in the final state evolution of heavy ion collisions at RHIC. We show that flow has universal features for a wide range of models. This significantly reduces the uncertainty in initializing hydrodynamic models at RHIC.
متن کاملA PHENIX perspective on soft observables in Heavy Ion Collisions
We present an overview of measurements from the PHENIX experiment focusing on soft observables in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The excellent particle identification of the PHENIX detector at low and intermediate transverse momentum provide an extensive set of measurements in nucleus-nucleus collisions and baseline measurements in p+p and d+Au collisions. Thermalized particle spectra, strong elli...
